In the wild wood
Trees all around me
Their leaves shining in the morning dew
The trunks reaching to the sky remind me of you
I stroll on under the rich canopy of green
My feet rustle in the undergrowth
My heart so keen
Like the crackle of youth long since gone
I am now standing under the tree were you first kissed me
And the forest floor where we laid the first time you made love to me
For I can never forget how you held me so close.
The feel of your flesh against my willing body
My spirit rose
I can still feel it now even though you are no longer near
You amazed me by naming all the trees we walked past
I can still hear your voice in my head describing the leaves of the oak
Then the rains came dripping on our naked bodies till we were soaked
I grow up that year so long ago
The wood was like a rite of passage
Me entering as a girl and finally emerging into the clearing a woman
And I owe it all to you dear wood
Long may you grow
